Need advice?
  • Basic orienteering (with Ordinance Survey Map) and interpretation of a Roadbook
  • Backpack management, its contents, its weight
  • Advice on dietary self-sufficiency or how to break the dehydrated myth “yuck”!
  • Technical advice on running in sand and how to “read” the sand
Training will be assured by Gérard Caupène and 2 “Trans Aquitainians”.

All sorts of advice will be given, if necessary, during each running session or during the evening around a good beer (or a glass of Abatilles water…)

Program :
Day 1: Meet up at the end of the morning at Piqueyrot (see the map), picnic, and then a 20Km* hilly run, with a passage along the beach and over the dunes. Hot shower, meal
Day 2:  30/33Km run in the morning along wild paths, direction full south to the Cousseau reserve (between Maubusson and the Moutchic). Picnic in the reserve and return by car to hot showers…
The evening, after dinner washed down with a good Médoc, 18/20Km night run with head torch, for those who are still standing…
Day 3 18/20Km* hilly run in the woods. Shower, picnic and then it’s time to say good-bye.

* NB: shortcuts will allow you to reduce the distances if necessary.

Circuit : right in the middle of Trans Aq’ country; the circuit follows the highlights of the 1st and 2nd stages of the 2010 TA. A bit of beach, wild and very hilly lakeside paths, smooth forest trails, soft sand…

Groups : 3 groups “rapid” (11Km/h), “average” (9/10Km/h) “slow” (7/8Km/h) will be led by experienced Trans Aquitainians and by Gérard Caupène. These speeds are very approximate and will be adapted to each runner during the sessions. They may seem slow to you, but remember the Trans Aq’ is won at an average speed of 10-11Km/h!

Some theoretical rudiments for orienteering will be given, backed up by demonstrations of how to use the road books to the best of their advantage, by taking authorised short cuts.
Back packs: We are also available to talk about material: gaiters, back pack, sleeping bag, etc.
Self sufficiency! Ah! We’ll show you that, without carrying your fridge on your back, you can eat a balanced diet and not go hungry. Dehydrated food-stuffs? Forget all of your preconceived ideas, and come and listen to us!
